G&W Contracts were appointed as the Principal Contractor for the integral replacement of a damaged Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) gate at a secure technology recycling centre. The project required a meticulously sequenced approach to maintain the site's stringent security and operational integrity throughout the works.
The scope began with the establishment of a fully secure temporary perimeter using high-specification fencing to compensate for the compromised access point. Our team then systematically decommissioned and removed the existing access control system, security cameras, and perimeter detection sensors integrated within the old gate structure. The demolition phase involved the careful removal of the damaged HGV gate and all associated civil works, including the breaking out and disposal of existing concrete foundations, tarmac, kerbs, and tactile paving.
Following site preparation, the new gate was precisely positioned, secured with new holding-down bolts to a reinforced concrete pad, and mechanically installed. All necessary ducting and cabling for power and data were installed, followed by the comprehensive reinstatement of the surrounding area with new concrete structures, kerbs, tarmac, and paving. The project concluded with the full commissioning and integration of the new gate, including the reconnection and testing of all access control, CCTV, and perimeter security systems, followed by the application of new line marking to finalise the works. The site was handed back to the client with enhanced security and full operational capability.
