G&W Contracts were appointed to execute a critical electrical infrastructure upgrade within a live, 24/7 manufacturing plant. The project's objective was the safe removal of an obsolete sub-distribution board (SDB) and its replacement with a new, larger-capacity board designed to meet both current site demands and provide capacity for future operational expansion.
The primary challenge was executing this essential upgrade with zero downtime to the client's continuous manufacturing processes. This was achieved through a meticulously planned and sequenced methodology. Prior to any work on the existing board, our team installed temporary power supplies sourced from alternative SDBs to maintain uninterrupted electricity to all critical machinery and systems.
With the temporary power system securely in place, the outdated distribution board was safely decommissioned and removed. The new, larger SDB was then installed, and all electrical terminations were methodically completed and tested. The system was then seamlessly transitioned from temporary to permanent power, with all circuits reinstated to the new board. Following successful commissioning and a period of observation, the temporary supplies were systematically isolated, stripped out, and the originating boards made safe. The project was delivered with no impact on the facility's round-the-clock production schedule.
