G&W Contracts were appointed as the Principal Contractor for the transformation and decommissioning of an IT room into a modern staff breakout area within a fully operational reverse logistics facility. The project required a complex technical strip-out followed by a high-quality fit-out to create a welcoming social space for staff without impacting the site's logistical workflow.
The initial phase involved the meticulous decommissioning of the existing IDF room. This critical first step included the safe relocation of live IT infrastructure to alternative cabinets, the installation of a new wall-mounted IDF cabinet at high level to maintain network integrity, and the specialist deactivation and removal of a gas suppression system. Our team then executed the demolition of the obsolete server racks, followed by the isolation and safe strip-out of all electrical supplies, containment, and the removal of the existing steel door.
Following the strip-out, the construction phase commenced. Walls were patched and prepared, and a new timber fire-rated door was installed to ensure compliance. A perimeter counter with stools was constructed, and new power supplies were installed for staff amenities. The project was completed with the application of new floor finishes, full painting and decoration, and the installation of new furniture, including couches and bean bags, to foster a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. All works were carefully coordinated to deliver the new staff welfare space within the live facility, ensuring zero disruption to the client's core operations.
